Frustration of a Nationalist Movement
This book deals with the Arab national movement in Palestine from 1917, the inception of British rule over most of the country, up to 1939, when a distinct period came to an end for the movement.
The author starts with some general characteristics of national movements and relates them to the particular case of Palestine. She then gives a picture of the political, social, and economic setting (Turkish and British rule, the Zionist movement, Arab society, and the land question). The national movement itself is treated in two parts: first a chronological narrative of events is given, then some important issues of Arab Palestinian politics are dealt with in separate chapters.
