The Death of James Forrestal: First Secretary of Defense
James Forrestal was named the first American Secretary of Defense in the Truman administration. He was in a war of ideologies in the Whitehouse between communist and Individual freedoms. President's Roosevelt, Truman and Eisenhower were very protective of the communists in their administrations. i.e. Alger Hiss.
Both James Forrestal and Joe McCarthy had solid proof that he was a spy for Soviet Union. Which after the KGB's files were opened, [during "Glasnost" in 1989] was proven behind any doubt that Hiss was a Soviet agent.. Yet both Forrestal and McCarthy were lampooned by the 'blind and ignorant'. Then murdered. Of course the media called it suicide and death by alcohol.
