Winter in Moscow is the remarkably enlightening and controversial novel written by Malcolm Muggeridge was based on his experiences in Russia during 1932 and 1933 while serving as the newspaper correspondent for the left-leaning Manchester Guardian.

Muggeridge was sent to Russia to see for himself -- and his public -- what went on behind the scenes. Inclined to expect a favorable reaction, he found instead disillusionment behind a facade of success. The authorities camouflaged everything to give him an impression based on meaningless figures and surface impressions, theories, not facts.

This 1934 fictionalized account of Stalin's Moscow presents an Orwellian nightmare satirized, as Western journalists blithely overlook starving peasants and support the utopian claims of one of the bloodiest regimes in human history.
